The FSA held a vote, ending 9th January, on a resolution to change our objects to;

“The advancement of education for public benefit through promotion and support of quality Forest School in the United Kingdom using any means to enable all children, young people and adults to benefit from increased opportunities for high quality and varied educational experiences in the natural world.”

144 members voted with all in favour, no no votes and no abstentions. The resolution was therefore passed and helped us to clear the final hurdle in our application for charitable status.

We have today received the following communication from the Charity Commission:

Registered Charity Number 1155616 FOREST SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

We are pleased to tell you that FOREST SCHOOL ASSOCIATION has achieved charitable status and has been entered onto the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1155616. The decision to register FOREST SCHOOL ASSOCIATION was based on the information you supplied during the application process. We are satisfied that FOREST SCHOOL ASSOCIATION is established for charitable purposes only for the public benefit.

Your directors are delighted that the organisation has achieved this as it reflects our impartial status in promoting and supporting Forest School for the public good. The organisation is now in a position to seek funding that will allow us to develop the organisation, further our objectives and support the Forest School sector as a whole.

May I also express my personal thanks to the directors for all their hard work in making this happen and for getting the FSA to this point. I think that the FSA has a bright future ahead and will have an import role in supporting the ethos and quality of Forest School for all.
