Join two experienced and enthusiastic practitioners for a common sense course, relevant to primary and secondary practitioners, based on up to date research and current best practice guidelines for working in the outdoors.

Expect lively presentation, as we discover the value of fire to create a community of learning and find out why empathy is one of the most effective strategies to have in your 'kit’.

Equip yourself with some powerful tools, improve outcomes for yourself and your clients.

Hosted by the Sylva Foundation at Long Wittenham, we will be training in their brand new Forest School site accessing a nearby wood managed by the Earth Trust.

The course is  a balance of theory and practical application with real life scenarios and experiences.

Topics covered include:

  • Triggers and causes of ‘challenging behaviour’
  • Neural and behavioural research

Identifying learners’ needs and effective ways of meeting them De-escalation techniques Validity and efficacy of sanctions and rewards Formulation and reviewing of policies Using the natural world to promote well being , self esteem and develop emotional intelligence How to transfer outdoor strategies indoors and to other settings What challenges us as leaders in the utdoors and looking after ourselves;
