Job description: Hello!
We are a brand spanking new Forest School charity organisation looking to recruit volunteers who are interested in learning more about Forest Schools, gaining experience and getting down-right muddy!
At Local Roots we offer a supportive, diverse and nurturing atmosphere for both children and adults to learn, develop and grow on personal and professional levels. We have lots of exciting projects in the works that are in need of enthusiastic helping hands and driven minds. In the future we will be looking to recruit sessional workers and part-time staff, so this is a great opportunity to show us what you’re made of!
Aged 16 – 24?
We’re really keen to get you involved learning new skills and gaining work experience. Volunteering at Local Roots can help you gain the confidence, skills and experience needed that sets you aside from the pack and boosts your CV.
(Did we mention the excessive amounts of roasted marshmallows we eat?)
Activities we run on site:
Regular Forest School Programmes for nurseries, home-schoolers and primary schools Outdoor After School and Holiday Clubs History Days & Traditional Skills Workshops Community Open Days
Skills to learn/come in handy:
Introduction to Forest School (Level 1) Fire Lighting & Safety Outdoor Cooking Tool Work Basic Carving and Green Woodworking techniques Foraging / Flora & Fauna ID Bushcraft / Survival Skills Woodland Management & Conservation Horticulture / Permaculture Principles
We’d love to be able to expand our training facilities and will outsource to provide our volunteers with the skills they feel they need, subject to funding and demand.
Person specification: Shiny happy people with a positive disposition!! (Ok, maybe no the shiny part… we never seem to keep clean for long ourselves!) If you have experience/want to know more about outdoor learning and play, environmental awareness, gardening or working with your hands – then we could definitely use you at Local Roots!
