Job description: We are advertising for our Older Kindergarten Room Leader.  We are looking for a motivated teacher and leader who shares our ethos and passion for the outdoors, making learning exciting and memorable for all children.  All children within the room will take part in Forest School regularly and have access to our large gardens and surrounding farm.  The successful applicant will lead a well qualified team of staff within the room and will be responsible for planning and lead teaching, Main duties:

  1. To provide awe and wonder activities for the children, reflecting their interests.
  2. To care for children, assessing their needs on an individual basis.
  3. To implement and inspire outdoor learning throughout the year.
  4. To ensure statutory requirements of the EYFS are carried out by yourself and all staff in the room.
  5. To maintain a safe and stimulating environment for the children to play and learn inside and outside.
  6. To promote creative and independent thinking in the children.
  7. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation, to ensure each child achieves their maximum potential.
  8. To be reflective and continually evaluate practices.
  9. To read, understand, add to and implement all the EYC policies and procedures.
  10. To ensure Health and Safety requirements are carried out within the room, and Risk Benefit Assessments are completed and adhered to, with input from children.
  11. To advise the Partners of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or other staff, or the safety of equipment.
  12. To ensure safeguarding of children policies are strictly adhered to.
  13. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learned as part of the job.
  14. To oversee behaviour management within the room.
  15. To act as a key person to a group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised as necessary.  Complete EyLog, an online learning journal system to record each child’s progress and plan next steps.
  16. To oversee Key Person system for Kindergarten, supporting staff as required.
  17. To settle in students and new staff and help in their induction and school/college requirements.
  18. To lead and role model good practice to all colleagues.
  19. To attend and input on staff meetings once a term, Parent Consultation evenings, Open Days and training, as required.
  20. To delegate fairly jobs around Kindergarten (inside and outside) with the responsibility of enhancing areas to provide awe and wonder. To give and support staff areas of responsibility, in conjunction with Younger Kindergarten Room Leader.
  21. To ensure effective time management for yourself and all colleagues in the room e.g. enhance areas of the room.
  22. To assist in duties around the premises as required.
  23. To lead the Supervision Cycle for staff within the Older Kindergarten Room.
  24. To promote Parent Partnerships through for example, daily interactions, parents consultation evenings and Open days.
  25. To oversee Thinking and Talking Tubs and Floorbook.
  26. To lead and prepare for Productions in conjunction with Younger Kindergarten Room Leader.

  • Love of the outdoors
  • Willingness to learn
  • Creative in delivering exciting planning
  • Previous experience of working with young children
  • Commitment to inclusion and diversity
  • Commitment to young children and parent partnership
  • Friendly, flexible approach
  • Good mental and physical health
  • Good knowledge of the EYFS
  • Qualified to at least Level 3, preferably a qualified teacher or EYP
  • Good leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • Organised in completing paperwork
  • Role model and lead good practice
