FOREST SCHOOL ASSISTANT VACANCY
SS Grade 4: £16,123 – £16,781 pro rata

We have a unique and rare opportunity for a Forest School Assistant at Pevensey & Westham CE Primary School.
The School is located in a beautiful historic village setting. The School was built in 2004, it is a mixed two form entry voluntary controlled school for children between the ages of four and eleven.  The School site includes a well-developed on-site Forest School area with a pond.
Every child at Pevensey & Westham School gets six weeks of Forest School each year.  This means going into our woodland area one day a week to learn practical skills such as fire lighting, cooking and shelter building; to learn how to manage risks and to become more confident and independent; and to develop a closer connection with the natural world.  We believe that Forest School supports our pupils to become more successful learners in the classroom and to meet some challenges of very day life.

The Forest School Assistant will assist with the day to day delivery of Forest School sessions and the management of the Forest School site. Duties include facilitating child led enquiry and supporting children to achieve practical tasks and performing manual labour to maintain and develop the woodland environment.

Applicants must have practical experience of outdoor education, knowledge and understanding of the Forest School ethos and the ability to use relevant power tools and equipment. The hours of work are 20 hours per week, term time only. Ten hours to be worked 9:00am – 3:00pm with children Monday & Tuesday, plus ten hours a week maintenance work to be agreed.
