Forest School Work Placement

Salary: Short Work placement (travel and lunch expenses)

Roles are available at our 3 locations:

  • Eltham College in South East London (SE9 4RW)
  • Merchant Taylors School in Northwood (HA6 2HT)
  • City of London Freemen in Leatherhead (KT21 1ET)

Launched in May 2014, The Hive is a fast growing education company focused on Outdoor Learning. We run day camps for children ages 5½-12, family experiences and education projects. We are currently recruiting for all 2016 holidays across our three locations.

The Hive is unique in the UK in bringing together high quality outdoor learning, narrative and technology. Our missions are story-based and revolve around specific outdoor challenges, which the children complete by undertaking activities drawn from a range of outdoor disciplines. These can include bushcraft, orienteering, gardening, geocaching, potion making, foraging, whittling, bee keeping, nature forensics, fire crafts, wild cooking, camp crafts and nature crafts. Technology (iPods, iPads, nature cams, Go Pros) is threaded into all missions.

Working with a qualified Forest School Lead Workshop Facilitator, students on Work Placements at The Hive get exposure to a wide range of outdoor education activities and skills. Working at The Hive allows them both to shadow experienced educators and to get a sense for Outdoor Learning in action. You’ll need to be high energy, fun and happy to pitch in. No two days will be the same! If this sounds like the sort of experience you’re after, join us!

Your attitude and desire to learn will be key. You must love being around young people and some experience of working with children in an outdoor context would be good. You will join a team of 3 people, including a Forest School Qualified Lead Facilitator and two Outdoor Instructors (with teaching qualifications but not necessarily Forest School), who will be there to direct and support you throughout your placement.

The Hive offers work placements of between 2 weeks and 4 weeks throughout the year. These can be consecutive weeks or not and there is flexibility according to students’ preferred dates.

Your profile and experience
