We all need shelter whether for ourselves, our imaginary friends or animal kingdom. Our needs are both psychological and practical. Sustainable shelter building is a terrific experience to offer Forest School participants to develop physically, creatively and emotionally. It offers opportunities for participants to work on their own or work in teams; to develop team building skills, co-operation, communication, empathy and to understand a little more the woodland world around them and the resources it can offer if used sustainably. From tiny small world shelters to full blown camps – the opportunities are endless for imagination and creativity to be let free.
It is the Level 3 Forest School Leader`s responsibility to ensure that appropriate risk/risk benefit assessments are in place with appropriate policy/procedures for safe shelter building.
