Forest Educators recognised by national learning outside the classroom awards

Forest educators and Forest School practitioners have been recognised in the shortlists for the 2015 Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC).

The awards are presented annually by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) and recognise those people who have had a significant impact on the lives of children and young people through their commitment to providing exciting and inspiring learning outside the classroom (LOtC) opportunities.

This year, 3 of the shortlisted candidates have been recognised for their work in forests and woodland. Roger Parkinson, a volunteer for the Woodland Trust, has been shortlisted in the LOtC Innovator category for his work developing a community Centenary Woodland; Stephanie Thorlby of The Sayers Croft has been recognised in the LOtC Educator Award for her project to bring Forest School to children in inner city London; and Tania Orgill of Playwood Forest Schools has been shortlisted as an LOtC Advocate for the training and support she offers, which has led to culture change within the schools she works with.

There are 4 categories of LOtC Award: LOtC Inspiring Educator, sponsored by eeZeeTrip; LOtC Advocate; LOtC Innovator, sponsored by YHA; and Lifetime Contribution to LOtC, sponsored by Scout Activity Centres. The winners of the awards will be chosen by online public vote through the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom website: www.lotc.org.uk.

The winners will be announced at an exclusive LOtC Awards dinner at Gilwell Park, Epping Forest on 26th November.
