Job description: It is essential that our staff are qualified and experienced in early years and passionate and dedicated to outdoor learning. We are looking for people who are keen to pass on their enthusiasm and love of nature to the next generation. We greatly believe in the concept of free play and the benefits it offers to children\’s learning in addition to their mental health.

Key Responsibilities

·         To lead the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage using the Forest School approach as the basis for learning through play.

·         Forest education is child-led. Your role is to assist the children to come up with ideas for what to do and adults to problem-solve alongside them, providing them with skills and knowledge in a safe environment.

·         Promote and facilitate partnership with parents/carers and other family members.

·         Remain abreast of current developments in childcare and education policies and practices.

·         Operate the highest standards of hygiene in the outdoor nursery.

·         Facilitate Ofsted inspections and to implement any recommendations.

·         As the outdoor nursery expands, the successful candidate will assist with the recruitment process, identify training needs, develop a training plan and evaluate training undertaken by staff.

·         Lead the preparation and delivery of planning meetings and parents meetings and other events.

Person specification : We are looking for a qualified, or soon to be qualified, Forest School Leader (level 3) with significant experience in childcare (a level 3 play worker or equivalent) to join us in leading this exciting launch of our innovative organisation. Additionally we will be shortly recruiting at all levels so would welcome applications from potential Nursery Assistants, who should have level 1 or 2 Forest School qualification along with Early Years qualifications and/or experience.

The successful candidate will have a great love of the outdoors, being prepared to spend most days outdoors and will also need:

·         A sound knowledge of childcare development from two to five years.

·         A knowledge and understanding of research related to childcare and education.

·         An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

·         An understanding of a play based approach to children’s learning and development.

·         As an excellent communicator, you will need to be versatile with energy and be passionate and dedicated about Outdoor Learning.

A current outdoor paediatric First Aid qualification and food hygiene certificates would be an advantage but are not essential.

Any other information: Little Forest Folk is a pioneering new nursery in Wimbledon which will offer full day childcare from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday for 2-5 year olds. We have sole use of a wonderful fenced site in a nature reserve where we plan to take the children 9.30-4pm, with care around these times being offered in our indoor facility near Raynes Park train station. In addition to full time daycare we will also be offering half days and sessions.

This is a very exciting project which has full local support and we are looking for some like minded people to join us at this early stage of developing the best nursery in South London!
