Forest School Leader

Salary: £125 per day  (Forest School Leader)

Roles are available at our 3 locations:

  • Eltham College in South East London (SE9 4RW)
  • Merchant Taylors School in Northwood (HA6 2HT)
  • City of London Freemen in Leatherhead (KT21 1ET)

Launched in May 2014, The Hive is a fast growing education company focused on Outdoor Learning. We run day camps for children ages 5½-12, family experiences and education projects. We are currently recruiting for all 2016 holidays across our three locations.

The Hive is unique in the UK in bringing together high quality outdoor learning, narrative and technology. Our missions are story-based and revolve around specific outdoor challenges, which the children complete by undertaking activities drawn from a range of outdoor disciplines. These can include bushcraft, orienteering, gardening, geocaching, potion making, foraging, whittling, bee keeping, nature forensics, fire crafts, wild cooking, camp crafts and nature crafts. Technology (iPods, iPads, nature cams, Go Pros) is threaded into all missions.

Our Lead Workshop Facilitators are all practising Forest School Leaders. As such they are the heart and soul of the experience we offer children and families. You will be at the front line of engaging campers in nature in a high energy, innovative and exciting way.  If you have a background in education (ideally as a primary school teacher), are a qualified Forest School Practitioner and enjoy working creatively with young people, join us!

You will need to be comfortable with leading a team of up to 3 people, with the support of your Camp Director. You will also need to be comfortable both with our story-led approach and the appropriate use of technology as a support for engagement and learning.

Your Profile and Experience

  • Formal teaching experience, either as a practising teacher or a student teacher
  • A Forest School qualification
  • A high energy and playful outlook with an instinctive understanding of what motivates children
  • An interest in learning through play and experiential education
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience of using tablet and mobile technology and preferably with children
