Job description: Job description: This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be at the cutting edge of a new kind of childcare.  We are looking for someone who is ambitious and can develop and lead this unique setting into an inspiring place for children to be outdoors; connect with nature; learn and grow!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage using the Forest School approach as the basis for learning through play.
  • Assist the children to come up with ideas for what to do and to problem-solve alongside them, providing them with skills and knowledge in a safe environment.
  • Manage, organise and develop a small team of qualified staff
  • Promote and facilitate partnership with parents/carers and other family members.
  • Remain abreast of current developments in childcare and education policies and practices.
  • Operate the highest standards of hygiene in the outdoor nursery.
  • Facilitate Ofsted inspections and to implement any recommendations.
  • Assist with recruitment, identify training needs, develop and evaluate training plans
  • Be reflexive and self-evaluate the progress of the preschool and staff
  • Lead the preparation and delivery of planning meetings, parents meetings, attend committee meetings and contribute to pre school fundraising.

Person specification : Person specification: You will need to be a qualified, or soon to be qualified, Forest School Leader (level 3) with significant experience in childcare (a level 3 play worker or equivalent).

The successful candidate will be passionate about outdoor learning and keen to pass on their enthusiasm and love of nature to the next generation.  You will have excellent communication skills, be versatile and have lots of energy.  Other essential requirements:

  • A sound knowledge of childcare development from two to five years.
  • A knowledge and understanding of research related to childcare and education.
  • An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • An understanding of a play based approach to children’s learning and development.

A current outdoor paediatric First Aid qualification and food hygiene certificates would be an advantage but are not essential.

Any other information: About the Setting: This early years setting provides nature based childcare in the Cotswolds Countryside. We are a village preschool, with space for just 12 children from two to four years old.  The children take part in daily outdoor activities frequently in the local woods and we are lucky enough to have our own allotment for the children.  We have recently focussed the direction of our setting towards outdoor learning in our beautiful countryside surroundings and are committed to building up a successful preschool based on a forest school approach.

Salary: Competitive – dependent upon skills and experience

Hours: Full-time (Part time considered).  The preschool is currently open 8.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday during term time.  We also run a holiday club (which is also open to older children) and there is potential for establishing after school care as there is very little in the surrounding area.
