Bushcraft Lead Job Description

The Hive ‘s workshops and missions cover 6 broad disciplines. All workshops are outdoor-based and focus on building nature skills, as well as creativity, resourcefulness and collaboration:

3. Story-telling and drama
4. Harvesting nature
5. Bushcraft and Forest School
6. Science and technology

The Bushcraft Lead Job Description

The Bushcraft & Forest School Lead will be responsible for:

  1. Supporting the development of our yearly bushcraft and Forest School programme for children and teens
  2. Supporting the development of our yearly programme for families
  3. Supporting the recruitment of bushcraft and Forest School facilitators
  4. Developing and delivering our yearly training programme
  5. Leading and delivering bushcraft and Forest Schools missions

This is a role, which requires:
1. Solid bushcraft and Forest School skills with a track record of delivering for young people
2. Imagination and an interest in multi-disciplinary approaches
3. Enthusiasm for creating modern and playful experiences
4. Interest in sharing knowledge, as well as training and supporting a team

Responsibilities

Your specific responsibilities will be as follows:

• Develop and plan up to 3 bushcraft missions for children and teens for The Hive 2017 programme. These missions may range from 2 to 5 days
• Familiarise yourself with and take responsibility for The Hive’s existing bushcraft missions
• Develop the course outline and schedule of activities for each mission
• Produce the list of kit, equipment and props needed for each mission
• Support the recruitment of facilitators by inputting into job descriptions and taking part in interviews
• Develop and deliver training sessions for the facilitating teams, including safety training
• Lead mission facilitation for up to 10 weeks per year
• Manage facilitating teams during mission times

Profile and Experience

• Forest School Level 3 qualification
• At least 2 years of experience of delivering bushcraft experiences for young people
• Some experience of delivering training to adults, including amateurs and practitioners
• Assessor experience would be beneficial, but isn’t a ‘must have’
• Teacher qualifications and experience an advantage
• A high energy and playful outlook with an instinctive understanding of what motivates young people
• Proven ability to lead a small team
• Excellent organisational skills
• A valid DBS Certificate – this will be required PRIOR to job offer
• First Aid Certificate is desirable

This role would suit an existing freelance practitioner, maybe at the beginning of their career who are looking to further their experience and range of skills, whilst securing regular work throughout 2017.

Location

The planning and development role can be conducted remotely.
Facilitation takes place at our 4 sites, per introduction. Facilitation dates will be a mix of school holiday dates, weekend dates and weekdays.

Time requirements

This opportunity offers between 8 weeks and 13 weeks of freelance work between November 2016 and August 2017. This would be split between planning, training and delivery work.

Remuneration

Planning days are paid at a rate of £120.
Facilitation days are paid at a rate of between £130 and £150 per day, depending on experience.
