Outdoor Educator

South Manchester

Salary: £11:30 per hour (which includes accrued holiday pay at the statutory rate) for 11.25 hours a week. The fixed contract covers the Spring and Summer terms for 23 weeks. Starting on Wednesday 13th of January and ending on the 13th of July 2016.

Job description: An exciting opportunity to join the team at The Wood School as an Outdoor Educator, based in a privately owned woodland in West Didsbury, Manchester.

The Wood School was born out of a dream to create a tiny school in a wood: a small, creative, and nature based learning environment for urban children. We are now in our fifth year and open three days a week.  We have 24 children (aged between four and eleven years old) and four staff present on each day. Some children have been with us since we opened whilst others are just starting – they come for between one and three days a week.

We are now looking for someone to join our team: working 8:30am – 4pm in the wood on Wednesdays. We also pay for additional time, which covers preparing your sessions and participating in a fortnightly staff meeting from 1pm – 3pm on Tuesdays.

We are looking for a creative individual who loves to work outside with children and who has the ability to inspire curiosity and a love of learning.

The Wood School is part of Learning in the Woods CIC. We currently have a team of seven teaching staff, four of whom are directors of the organisation. Working as a team is very important to us and we use consensus decision making as a basis of our work together.  Our work is also underpinned by Compassionate (or Non-Violent) Communication – we strive to be a setting in which everyone’s needs matter.

Closing date for applications: 27th November 2015
